What is content, why does it matter, why should I care, and what do I need to know?
Whoa, whoa! That's a lot of questions?
Ok what is content?
Content is the words, on the page, the videos, the pictures, the tags, tabs, the labeling of pictures you can't necessarily see anything you see on a page is content.
Why does it matter?
The search engines use the content of your site to decide whether or not they should feature your site or business on their search results page. They send their "spiders" out into the web to "crawl" it for content, relevant to the search that was just entered so for example if you're searching for Taylor Swift you shouldn't get results featuring the Battle of Cannae.
Why should I care?
The layout of your site matters, where the content goes matters, the words used in your site matters, if you have for example information on the weather or your Covid 19 front and centre on page 1 of your totally unrelated businesses site (something that happens, frequently) guess what the search engine's think your site is about? That's right the weather or Covid 19.
Industry experts agree that longer form content, over 2,000 words, that meets Google’s (EAT) Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness requirements is rewarded by the algorithms and performs better than articles of 1000 words or less.
What do I need to know?
The type of content matters, the search engines love content, above everything else, if you get the content wrong your site may not rank in search results. You need the content to be Unique (meaning not plagiarized, even from yourself), Authoritative (meaning it's trusted and true) Relevant (meaning the search engines think your site is about what it says it's about) and have plenty of "Keywords" the words that people use to search for your product or service.
